Designing & Building the Harwinton PH
A presentation and discussion about the recently completed Harwinton Passive House
We have just completed building a Passive House in Harwinton, CT and have been invited to give a presentation about what was involved designing and building the project by the Solar Energy Association of CT.
What we’ll talk about:
- The process of designing this house
- How we use Passive House tools to make important decisions
- The choices we made when designing this project
- The materials we selected to deliver Passive House level performance
- The process of constructing the project
- The challenges we faced and how we responded to them
- What the finished project is like to live in
- Any questions you might have about the project and Passive House as a way of building
What you’ll learn:
- What a home’s “energy balance” is and how this awareness invites us to build a smarter building
- How we experience comfort and can create conditions to provide it consistently
- The design strategies we rely on to achieve “high performance”
- Ways to make a simple building shape architecturally interesting
- How to take advantage of available incentives to build and renovate high performance homes like this one
- The team it takes to build this way
- The communication required to assure everyone is working in alignment with the project goals
- What some of the materials are that make all this possible
Who you’ll meet:
- Wolfworks designer Jamie Wolf (I dream it up) and construction manager Janet Downey (she gets it done).
